Two performances to sell out crowds! We have a very talented group

of actors in our community. They provided us with a night of hilarious

entertainment. I never would have guessed it was the preacher...or would I?

Slaton Harvey House.

1,500 people that was the estimate for the number of "Trick-or-Treaters" at

our annual "Trunk-or-Treat". Young and old, all shapes and sizes and...

some very creepy, I'm just not sure what they were. Thank you to all

Slaton businesses, churches and clubs that provided treats that night.

What a fantastic turn out there was for the sausagefest. Thank you to everyone

who contributed to make this event a success. There was a lot of fun, food and

excitement. What a day!  The funds raised will help support St. Joseph School.

Congratulations to Rodney Simmons our "Railroader of the Year", Kelly Kitten

our "Farmer of the Year" and Modesto Vasquez our "Farm Hand of the Year".

Thank you to all our sponsors for helping us once again host this very special

Slaton event to recognize the business, railroad and agriculture contributions

to our community. We had a tremendous turn-out once again.

What a great turn out we had for the 5th Friday Art Show. Thank you to everyone who

came out. We had amazing artwork on display in our galleries, Artwork vendors lining the

sidewalks, two talented musicians joined us and some great food. I would like to invite you

to join us for the next 5th Friday on November 29th. All the fun will be on the Square. Mark

your calendar and bring the family for a great evening.

Thank you so much for joining us at the Slaton Park for great tasting barbeque on Saturday,
August 17th at the 4th Annual Cook For The Cure BBQ Cook-Off. The Proceeds raised

benefit the AmericanDiabetes Association. Cook teams competed for prize money in

brisket, ribs, cook's choice and outlaw beans categories. Grand Champion and Reserve

Grand Champion were awarded. We finished that evening with an "All-You-Can-Eat"

barbeque dinner followed by the Street Dance. Danielle Henzler and her band provided

the music. Mark your calender's for next year. Always the third Saturday in August.

Hope to see you there.

We hope you were able to join us for the Caprock Classic Car Club Show & Cruise
July 19th & 20th. Slaton is always happy to welcome the Car Club each summer as they
host their annual car show. Car enthusiasts from around the country find their way to
Slaton to show off their vehicles. Their hard work has resulted in some amazing restorations
and unusual creations. Friday night's cruise had 85 cars entered. That is a record number.
The show on Saturday had 265 entries to be judged.  That doesn't include the cars that were
registered for display only. For this show the club brings in nationally accredited judges.
Judging is kept top secret until awards are presented at the end of the day.  Throughout
the day there were plenty of food and merchandise vendors as well as some fun and games
coordinated by the club. Prizes were given all day long for those participating. The "Burn-Out"
added more excitement that afternoon. Almost 50 entries competed for the crowd favorite.
The more smoke and noise the better! Be sure to include the car show on your calendar for
next year, it's always the third weekend in July.

Our July 4th Festival had record attendance this year. We had a lot of fun, food and
great entertainment. Many thanks to our sponsors: United Supermarkets, South Plains
Compost, Slaton Primary Medical Clinic, Caprock Santa Fe Credit Union, Slat-Co Printing,
RVOS Meurer Agency, O. D. Kenney Auto Parts, R. E. Janes Gravel Company and
Prosperity Bank. A special thank you goes out to KSSL FM 107.3 for coordinating the
music for us. We were very fortunate to have such a talented group of musicians
perform for us. The whole gang came out and made it a real "boot-scootin' " party.
