The city of Slaton is located in the southeast corner of
Lubbock County on the South Plains of Texas. Slaton is considered a suburb
of Lubbock, which is only 15 miles or a 20-minute drive away. Slaton is
approximately five miles from Crosby County two miles from Lynn County and
six miles from Garza County
U.S. Highway 84 serves Slaton as it leads through West Texas toward Northern
New Mexico. Slaton is also served by F.M. 400, which provides a north to
south route. Burlington-Northern Santa Fe Railroad is located in Slaton. The
Slaton Regional Airpark is operated by Neal Aircraft and is one of the
busiest airports in this area other than the Lubbock International Airport.
Slaton is home to Triangle Manufacturing; Gould's Pumps Foundry, A division of ITT; three
major automobile dealerships; a regional shopping center; and many
agricultural related business. The Slaton Economic Development Corporation
is currently working to bring in new businesses and industries.
The local school district offers excellent education and an opportunity for
college credit at the High School's Distance Learning Lab. Higher education
is within commuting distance to Lubbock for Texas Tech University, Lubbock
Christian University, and South Plains College
